Hey, everybody, welcome to the Ten Percent Happier Podcast. I'm Dan Harris. Today we are gonna talk to a very wise and very funny Buddhist nun whose name is Aya Santa Chita. We're gonna talk about what we're getting wrong about self improvement, uh the upside of having your heart broken, uh dropping our self limiting stories, uh, the fact that patience is not as she says, just for old ladies, how to tolerate uncertainty, uh tuning into uh never enoughness as a way to turn insufficiency to your advantage. As you can tell it's a it's a wide ranging and really interesting and really useful conversation. Just a little bit more about Aya Santa Chita before we dive in. She's a Western Buddhist nun who trained in England and in Asia, primarily in the lineage of uh a Thai master named Ajahn Cha.
Uh she lives and teaches uh from the Aloka Earth Room in San Rafael, California. And she's written a book called Uh What Are You Waiting For? I Santa Cheetah welcome to the show. Thank you, then, for inviting me.
I'm so glad you said yes. I have a bunch of things I want to talk to you about, but I'm just curious, just to get us started here. How, why, when did you become a nun? Uff, you know, I became a numb in nineteen ninety three. And it all began in nineteen eighty eight when I met my first teacher In the forests of South Thailand. And you got really kind of increasingly more interested.
