I think people feel bad about asking for what they need, but I think if you're delivering and you're adding value to the team, you've earned the right to say, hey, I want to continue to perform at a very high level. And this is what it takes for me to perform at a high level. Go in with a positive intent. It's easy. Well, they don't value me.
They don't trust me. Maybe they don't, but that's not going to set you up for success if you start that way. Show the positive intention that you would like someone to give you and reflect that back to them. That's Molly Shang. She's the founder of Abella Consulting and Say It Skillfully Inc.
She helps individuals at all levels master the art of candid and constructive communication. And she shares a lot of that wisdom in her latest book, Say It Skillfully, Speak Up, Make Your Words Matter, Win Together, which she co-authored with the Marshall Goldsmith. So you'll learn one, the preamble that helps your feedback land well, two, how to say no while still being a team player, and three, what to do when you disagree with the majority. And if you want a quick summary write-up of these takeaways, I recommend you sign up for the free gold nugget email newsletter that's found at awesomeatyourjob.com. I'm Pete Vikitis.
