Every reason it can be missing
- The language. Apple transcribes English, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish and Swedish. Nothing else.
- The episode is new. Apple tells creators to allow 24 hours.
- Your device. You need iOS or iPadOS 17.4, or macOS 14.4, or later.
- You are not in the app. podcasts.apple.com, Windows, Android and Apple Watch have no transcripts at all. On Windows and Android.
- The show switched them off, or supplied its own transcript file and it failed Apple's checks.
- The episode is very long. Episodes over 10 hours may not be transcribed.
- Full-screen video. Transcripts do not show in full-screen video mode on iPhone and iPad.
- Content restrictions are on and the episode is marked explicit.
- Your country. Apple lists no transcripts in Belarus or Russia.
Old episodes are no longer a reason: Apple finished transcribing its whole back catalogue in March 2025.
Gaps inside a transcript
If the transcript is there but skips parts: ads inserted after the transcript was made are left out, and song lyrics never appear. Heavy cross-talk and loud music make the text less reliable.
